To Ohio and Back Again

Last summer I met a girl who became a dear friend.  Her name is Sarah Brown.  I told her I would come visit her before the year was over and we squeaked in a visit just at the last minute.  Sarah Petersheim went with me.  The morning we left, we had quite an adventure.  It was snowing and people were sliding all over the road.  We slid too, but God protected us from sliding into anything.  Half an hour later we made it out of the snowstorm and we on our way.  The rest of the 8 hour trip was a breeze.

Once at Sarah B’s house, we settled in and talked for a few hours and we ate supper.  We met her family and got to know her sweet dogs.  I’m not a dog person, but I loved her dog named Puppy!!!  The next two days we spent at the Creation Museum.  The museum is about an hour away in Kentucky so we got to add another state to our list of ‘states that we traveled to’.

This room was the Garden of Eden and one of our favorite rooms.

In the evening we went out into their huge flower/tree gardens.  The Christmas lights and the garden and the pond was absolutely beautiful.

Just hanging out with a dinosaur.

They had the cutest donkey and llamas at the petting zoo.

The zedonk and zorse were my favorite.

Saturday night we went to a place with a ton of lights.  And I am NOT exaggerating.  There were so many lights and a lot of them were blinking.  It almost gave me a headache.  They also had lively Christmas music playing, train rides, and a campfire.  We wandered around and looked at all the lights and enjoyed a train ride.

This is Joe, Sarah’s little brother.  He was our pal and faithful photographer.  He was so much fun to have around, especially cause I am used to having a little brother.

Tres amigas!!!!

On Sunday we went snow tubing!!  I’d never been snow tubing before and I’m not into thrill rides (I hate roller coasters) so I wasn’t sure if I’d like it.  I had SO MUCH FUN!  Especially once they convinced me to go down on my stomach.  That was the best.  Anyone want to go snow tubing?

The day we went was perfect.  It started out cloudy and rainy which kept away the crowds.  But by the time we arrived it stopped raining and by the end of the day the sun had come out.  It was 48 degrees so after a while we had to shed a few layers of clothing.  By the time we left, the place was packed.

We found this Christmas ornament in a gift shop and it fit me and Sarah well, so Joe took a picture of it.

Sarah is such a sweet girl and is a huge encouragement to me.  Her love for God and her desire to do what is right, even though she stands alone, amazes me.  She has a great sense if humor and always has me laughing with her stories and songs.

The last night we went to the Cincinnati Zoo to see all the lights and drink hot chocolate.  We took this neat little train ride that took us through the zoo.  We went past the wolves and they were howling which made us feel like we were out west.  Then we went past a big pond filled with ducks and lots of christmas lights and christmas music playing.  It was really pretty.  Then us three girls went running through the zoo with our hair flying (I’m sure we made quite a sight) so we could get to the special effects theater on time.  We watched 15 min. of Ice Age in 3D.  It was hilarious…we were laughing the whole time!!

The next morning we drove home and arrived in time to get settled in and welcome in the new year.  Thank you Sarah Brown for hosting us and thank you Sarah Petersheim for traveling with me yet again.  You both are AWESOME!!
